This position will be required to inspect, maintain, repair, and modify per individual test specifications all rolling stock including passenger equipment and special rail vehicles at TTCI


Incumbent will assist in planning and implementing of major car modifications to suit testing requirements.  This position will also be expected to work and train on locomotive mechanical issues. Will work closely with customers both internally and externally. Will need the ability to work with minimal supervision.


High school education or equivalent. Current and valid Driver’s License is required. Five years of experience working as a Carman in the industry e.g.; North American Railroad, rebuild shop, etc. Working knowledge of the Field Manual of the AAR Rules of Interchange and AAR manual of Standards and Recommended Practices. Safe Shop Practices, Basic knowledge of Railcar Construction, Air Brake Systems and Single Car Air Tests. Incumbent must be able to demonstrate safe cutting and burning practices. Have excellent knowledge of the Safe use of Hand and Power Tools. Must be able to work in an environment that requires heavy lifting and carrying on a routine basis.

Physical demands of the job require the incumbent have the ability to walk in a railroad environment including uneven surfaces such as ballast.  Must also be able to stand, climb, bend, stoop and sit.  Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. May work in adverse weather conditions.  Must be able to read and interpret instructions.



Preferred Qualifications:

Ten years of experience as a Carman. Extensive Working knowledge of the Field Manual of the AAR Rules of Interchange, AAR manual of Standards and Recommended Practices, Safe Shop Practices, and Basic Railcar Construction, Worked in and with AAR Certifications with QA audits. Certifications in welding both with Wire Feed and Arc welders.
