Senior-level systems engineer responsible for project management, technical oversight and systems engineering support of research, testing, technology development and consulting projects funded by TTCI internal and external customers in the areas of railroad communications and train control. Successful candidate will provide project management, as well as professional engineering and scientific services to TTCI internal and external customers as directed by the Resource Manager.
Assignments for this position will include management of multiple projects of varying size and complexity, including management of project schedules, budgets, resources, and risks; oversight of technical progress; review of project deliverables; and ensuring a high-level of quality and customer satisfaction. The position will require effective interfacing with customers, stakeholders, suppliers and contractors, as well as internal project teams and other departments.
Project responsibilities will include application of systems engineering principles to railroad research initiatives, system design support including development of systems engineering documentation, analysis of technology concepts and requirements, application of available technologies to the railroad industry, and development and execution of laboratory and field test plans and procedures. The systems engineer will be expected to lead activities related to development of formal system-, segment-, and component-level requirements, including functional, performance, environmental and other requirements based on the needs of the stakeholders; requirements tracing; evaluation of technical proposals from vendors and suppliers; development of test plans for verification and validation of systems and products; development of implementation and migration plans; and other related tasks. The systems engineer will also be responsible for leading risk analysis tasks including hazard analysis using techniques such as fault-tree analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and similar techniques; development of system safety analysis documentation; development of safety requirements; and verification and validation of system safety requirements.
Assignments may include, depending on project requirements, providing project-specific technical leadership to as many as ten engineers and/or technicians. The successful candidate is expected to participate in all phases of projects to include proposal preparation; project planning; risk assessment; budget and schedule management; project resource assignments; technical and research activities; data analysis; test planning; test support; and preparation of technical reports.
