TTCI is tasked with assisting the railroad industry in testing, designing, defining, modeling, and evaluating technologies related to Communications and Train Control (C&TC).  Internship will support research related to current and next generation Positive Train Control (PTC) systems, braking algorithm, fiber optic acoustic detection, railroad wireless communications, radio technology performance, and/or other C&TC areas.  These projects are all being funded by TTCI internal and external customers, including FRA, AAR, AAR member railroads, and commercial clients.

The projects’ general objectives include research to analyze and improve railway vehicle dynamic performance and reduce dynamic forces and wear to the track. Projects may also include work to improve wear and rolling contact fatigue of wheels and rails, and structural strength and fatigue of vehicles and their components.  These projects may be funded by the Association of American Railroads as part of TTCI’s Strategic Research Initiatives program, through Federal Railway Administration (FRA), TTCI’s internal research and development and/or commercial customers.
